About This Site & It’s Mission

Let’s be clear. I’m an old school travel tech geek, but this site is about the NOW. The basics of website design and search engine marketing. Pay per click and organic. Google and… well, all the others. It’s about getting your signal to rise above the noise.

When Apple and Microsoft were picking teams the travel industry was one of the last ones standing and we sort of had to go with Microsoft. The proprietary software (Sabre, Apollo, PARS) was pre-loaded onto Windows 3.1 machines and if you could really, really hack stuff then you could get popup messages and eventually email to work within the office. The World Wide Web just didn’t exist as it does now. We were all told we would void our contracts and lose our shirts if we dared to load anything… and I mean anything… on those machines.

That was circa 1992-1995. Then third-party software companies, new technology and eventually open internet access and websites entered the fray, and the rest is history. There’s a lot to talk about – history and future. This site is about that conversation and the tools you need to get business done.

If you want to get my weekly post about technology and it’s impact on the retail industry, be sure and get on the email list. You can also find me over on http://www.hbtacommunity.com/ because Tom Ogg’s a smart guy with a lot of good ideas. I also like Steve Cosgrove’s stuff: http://www.travelagencymarketingtips.com/ – he’s been doing good work for a while now.

Got a resource to share? Let me know!
